LASIEC issues certificates of return to LG Poll winners

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC has issued Certificates of Return to chairmanship and councillorship winners of the Local Government election held in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Saturday.

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Olatunde Phillips issued the Certificates of Return to all elected chairmen on Monday at the commission’s office in Yaba.

Phillips congratulated the winners and charged them to ensure they deliver the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

She said the commission had been working assiduously for months to ensure a smooth election.

“You belong to a new generation of chairmen and councillors and those who voted for you should enjoy the dividends of democracy,” she said.

Phillips said the commission was grateful to God that there was loss of lives during the poll and thanked Lagosians for their cooperation.

However, while the All Progressives Congress, APC swept the poll, the Peoples Democratic Party,  PDP won four councillorship seats while Accord Party won three councillorship seats out of the 377 seats vied for, while the  APC won 300 seats.

The APC, however won all chairmanship seats in the 57 Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas,  LCDAs of the State.
