Man Facing Child Defilement Charge Gets N1m Bail

A 25-year-old man, Sani Mohammed, standing trial over alleged abduction, detention and defilement of an eight-year-old girl, has been granted N1 million bail by a Surulere Chief Magistrate’s’ Court in Lagos.

The Magistrate, Mr Aro Lambo, said the accused would produce two sureties in like sum, one of who must own property within the jurisdiction of the court while the other should be a community leader or cleric.‎

He said the sureties should also provide evidence of tax payments to Lagos State Government.

Mohammed, a resident of No. 36 Ishaga Road, Idiaraba area of Lagos State, had pleaded not guilty to the charges of defilement, indecent treatment of minor, sexual assault, abduction and detention.

‎‎The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 16, in his apartment.

‎‎Osayande said the accused unlawfully abducted and indecently treated the 8-year-old girl by detaining her and defiling her against her will.

She alleged that the accused saw the girl on her way to her aunt’s house, picked her on his bike, took her to his house and defiled her.

“The girl narrated the story to her aunt on getting to her house,’’ she added.

‎The offences contravened Sections 135(1), 261, 265(1), 269 and 272 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015

The case was adjourned until Sept. 28, for mention.
