A Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, on Thursday ordered remanded of a 15-year-old student in a juvenile home and given six strokes of the cane for stealing four wrappers valued at N18,000.
The judge, Mr Lawal Suleiman, handed down the sentence after the juvenile admitted committing the offence.
The juvenile had pleaded for leniency and promised to turn a new leaf.
Suleiman, however, gave the juvenile an option of N3,000 fine.
The prosecutor, Ahmed Labaran, had told the court that one Rukayat Aminu reported the matter at Angwan Rogo Police Station, Jos that the defendant of same address, stole her wrappers valued at N18, 000.
The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code Law.
