Motorcycle thief remanded till bail condition is fulfilled

The Modakeke Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Monday remanded in prison a man, Adewale Adeniyi, charged with stealing a motorcycle pending the perfection of his bail condition.

Adeniyi, 27, is facing a charge of stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs Risikat Olayemi, had granted the accused N50, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.

She said the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

In addition, the surety must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 05 or the relation of the accused.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Ona Glory told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 27 at 2.00 p.m. in Apalara area of Modakeke.

Glory said the accused conspired with others now at large to steal a motorcycle marked Lagos KTU 723 QF.

The offence contravened Section 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused had pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Martins Awe, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, saying he will not jump bail.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 27 for hearing.
