Welder Remanded For Being In Possession Of Walkie Talkie

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 29-year-old welder, Abubakar Yakubu, in prison for allegedly being in possession of police walkie talkie. Yakubu hails from Agbe village near Makurdi.

No plea was taken when the accused was arraigned.

The Magistrate, Mrs Franca Yuwa, ordered the remand of the accused at the Federal Prison Makurdi, and adjourned the case till Sept. 26 for mention.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Adaoke Oluwa, told the court that the case was transferred from ‘B’ Division Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Dept (SCIID) on July 5.

Oluwa said that a team of policemen led by Insp. Onoja Johnson, while on surveillance arrested the accused on July 1.

He said that when the accused was searched, a police walkie talkie and police belt was found in his possession.

The prosecutor said the accused mentioned one Denen Kobo, still at large, as the person who gave him the items.

He said that investigation into the matter was ongoing, and prayed the court for another date for mention.

He said the offence contravened sections 97 and 137 of Penal Code law of Benue state 2004.
