The accused, 23, who damaged the vehicle in the process, is facing the charges of criminal breach of trust, mischief and attempted theft, all punishable under sections 314, 327 and 95 of the Penal code.

Ashasim said the complainant, an employee of Decker Limited, Asokoro, Abuja, had parked the company vehicle, a Nissan Saloon, in the office premises after the day’s work and handed over its keys to the accused for safe keeping.

“The accused later moved the car from where it was earlier parked, and with an intention to steal it”.

Ashasim further alleged that the accused drove the vehicle away from Asokoro to Deidei in Abuja, where he had an accident that damaged it, hence the end of his journey.

The prosecutor told the court that the cost of the damage done to the vehicle was estimated at N110, 000.

She added that the defendant confessed to the crime during police investigations and the damaged vehicle was recovered from his possession at the point of arrest.

After listening to the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the matter was adjourned to Sept. 13 for hearing.
