A Sokoto Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered one Gazalli Shehu, a storekeeper, to be remanded in prison custody for allegedly stealing items worth N1.2 million from a frozen food store.

The items include condensers, evaporator, compressor and alternator with a combined value of N1, 250, 000.

The accused, aged 21, who resides at No. 10 Kilgori road, Hajiya Halima area in Sokoto, was charged with criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and theft.

The Police prosecutor, Insp. Abubakar Tambuwal, told the court that the accused was employed as a storekeeper at Ajikeola Frozen Food Nig. Ltd by the complainant, Folorunsho Sikiru, of the same address.

Tambuwal told the court that the complainant reported the incident to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Sokoto South Division, when he discovered that the items were missing.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.

When his plea was taken, Shehu pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, for further investigation.

Adamu adjourned the case till Aug. 12, for hearing.
