The Lagos State Government has promised to continue its support and sponsorship of indigenous cultural education for children in the state.
Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Arts and Culture, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that state government would continue to prioritise the inculcation of indigenous cultural education among children of school age.
“Lagos State believes that the preservation of the various aspects of the indigenous culture, moral ethos and languages of the people of the state is of utmost importance for the sustainability of long term development and cultural values of its people,” she said.
Akinsola lauded the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture for periodically creating an avenue for school children to exhibit their talents and creativity during the long holidays.
“I really appreciate the council for its effort in bringing out the best in the school children.
“I am privileged to interact with some of the school children participating in the ongoing summer cultural fiesta organised by the council and I am impressed by their performances,” she said.
Akinsola also described Gov. Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State as an avowed lover of indigenous cultural values.

“This could be affirmed from his unflinching supports for any programme with indigenous cultural content such as ongoing children summer cultural fiesta organised by the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture.
“The children are being exposed to and trained in cultural etiquette, use of indigenous language to convey messages through moonlight stories, proverbs and idioms.
“They also undergo basic training in script writing, composition of traditional songs, dancing and drama presentation,” she said.
She said that she put some students through a series of idioms and short stories during her visit to their training centre at the council.
“I enjoined the participants to make good use of the opportunity given to them by the state government.
“ I also derived benefits from their excellence performances to justify the state government’s investment in the programme,” she said.
She said that the programme which had run for the third year now, also involved vocational training in beads making, arts and craft production and decoration.
