Man arraigned for unlawful possession of ATM cards

A 34-year-old man, Abayomi Lawrence, allegedly found with five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards which he could not give a satisfactory account of, on Friday appeared in an Okitipupa Magistrates Court, Ondo State.

Lawrence, of no fixed address, is also accused of burgling the shop of one Ayodeji Ibitoye and stealing 12 plastics of one-liter Total engine oil, among other items.

The accused is facing a three-count charge of burglary, stealing and unlawful possession of properties.

The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi said that the accused, on July 13, at No.1, Luwoye St., Okitipupa, burgled Ibitoye’s shop and stole the 12 plastics of engine oil valued N20,000.

He said that the accused also stole one LG DVD player valued N15,000 and three mobile handsets.

Orogbemi said the handsets — one Nokia, Samsung and Foxtel — were valued N10,000, N12,000 and 15,000 respectively.

The prosecutor said that the accused when apprehended was also in possession of two First Bank and three UBA ATM cards which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

Orogbemi said that the accused committed the offenses contrary to and punishable under Sections 412, 390(9) and 430, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mr. Banji Ayeomoni, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety in like sum.

Ayeomoni said that the surety must produce evidence of one year tax clearance, as part of the bail conditions.

He adjourned the case till Sept. 5, for further hearing.
