Chief Moses Adeyemo, the Oyo State Deputy Gov., has advised insurance firms to enlighten Nigerians on benefits of insurance policies.

He gave the advice when a delegation from NEM Insurance led by its Chairman, Dr Fidelis Ayebae, paid him a courtesy visit in Ibadan.

The delegation was in Ibadan for the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to hold at Ibadan on Thursday.

Adeyemo said that insurance firms were an important sector of the economy whose significance Nigerians were yet to appreciate.

“Insurance policies are useful and accepted instruments in the developed nations. Insurance policies give succour to loss of lives and properties.

“For instance, insurance policies would have helped a lot if undertaken by residents who lost several properties and relatives in the August 2011 disaster in Oyo State,’’ he said.

Mr Tope Smart, the Chief Executive of the company, advised the state government to encourage the people to take insurance policies.

According to him, insurance provides succour to the people in case of loss of properties and lives
