Yobe Government on Monday, distributed consumable items to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable persons in the 17 local government areas of the state, preparatory to Edel-el-Kabir celebrations.

The items comprised: 16,400 bags of rice, 7,850 Jerry cans of vegetable oil, 7,200 cartons of Spaghetti, 93 bales of second hand clothes and 510 bags of mosquito coil.

The distribution cut across the 17 local government councils of the state.

Alhaji Abubakar Ali, state Deputy Governor and Chairman, Committee on Resettlement for the (IDPs), inaugurated the distribution of the goods in Damaturu on Monday.

He was, however, represented by Alhaji Muhammad Lamin, the Commissioner for Education and member of the committee.

Ali said that the items were meant to support those in need to enable them celebrate Sallah and meet their food challenges.

The deputy governor said that the materials were shared in accordance with the scale of the IDPs and vulnerable persons in each of the 17 local governments..

According to him, Gujba Local Government Area with the highest number of IDPs receives 2,000 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of Spaghetti and 750 Jerry cans of vegetable oil.

“Gulani Local Government, which ranks second got 1,800 bags of rice, 1,000 cartons of Spaghetti and 700 Jerry cans of vegetable oil.

“Giedam and Yunusari Local Governments received 1,600 bags of rice, 700 cartons of Spaghetti, and 500 jerry cans of vegetable oil each,” he said.

Ali said that Potiskum, Damaturu, Nguru and Bade Local Governments each received 900 bags of rice, 500 cartons of Spaghetti and 450 Jerry cans of vegetable oil.

Fika, Fune, Yusufari and Tarmuwa were given 700 bags of rice, 200 cartons of Spaghetti and 400 Jerry cans of vegetable oil each.

According to the deputy governor, Jakusko, Nangere, Bursari, Machina and Karasuwa Local Governments receive 600 bags of rice, 200 cartons of Spaghetti and 400 Jerry cans of vegetable oil each.

He also handed over 30 bags of mosquito coil and five bales of used clothes to each of the local governments.

Alhaji Kyari Batarama, Chairman, Gujba Local Government Area,who spoke on behalf of the council chairmen, assured the state government of equitable distribution of the items to people affected by the insurgency and the vulnerable groups.

Alhaji Musa Jidawa, Permanent Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, said that the gesture was in continuation of the government’s special support to IDPs and vulnerable persons during Sallah and Christmas seasons.”
