Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has urged Muslims
in the state to dedicate the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to pray for unity and peace in the country.

He made the call in a Sallah message to the people of the state signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, on Thursday in Ilorin.

Muslims all over the world are set to celebrate Eid el-Kabir on Friday, being the 10th day of Dhul Hijja in the Islamic calendar.

Eid el-Kabir is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of prophet Ibrahim to
obey Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael, where the Almighty provided him with a ram to slaughter instead of his son.

The Kwara governor congratulated Muslims on the celebration of the festival and urged them to be peaceful, generous and law-abiding.

He urged the people to use the opportunity of witnessing another celebration to pray for peace and unity in the country.

The governor called on Muslims to pray for safe return of pilgrims from the Holy Land, adding that Nigerians should be ambassadors of a united and prosperous Nigeria.

He advised the people of the state not to engage in hate and inciting speeches that could cause disunity.

“We should use this occasion to appreciate God by being tolerant and being our neighbours’ keepers, assist the needy and the poor,” he said.

Ahmed also called on the people to always support government programmes and policies aimed at making life comfortable for them.

He promised not to relent in his efforts toward providing sustainable facilities and complete on-going projects before the end of his tenure.

The governor wished Muslims and people of the state a fruitful celebration and many more prosperous years.
