Sheikh Adam Idoko, the Chief Imam of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Central Mosque has urged Muslims to always pray for the nation’s leaders.

Idoko who gave the advice in Nsukka on Friday during the Eid-el-Kabir prayer said that with prayers God would give leaders wisdom to take decisions that would take the country to the next level.

“My brothers and sisters, always pray for leaders because they did not put themselves there.

“It is God that put leaders in position and we must support and pray for them because God will not make mistake, “he said.

He urged Muslims to continue to be submissive to Allah for his mercy and protection and favours.

“Many people who celebrated this Eid-el-Kabir with us last year are not alive not because we are better than them but because it pleases Allah we be alive till today.

“Always remind yourself that everything you have in this world is given to you by God.

“Don’t ever use the wealth given to you by God to maltreat the poor but use it to assist the poor and the needy,” he said.

The imam, who is the deputy secretary-general, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, urged Muslims to always show obedience to Allah as Ibrahim did by sacrificing his only son to God.

“We will tap from the blessings of Ibrahim if we obey God like he did.

“The significance of Eid-el-Kabir is centred on obedient and sacrifices to God.” he said.

Idoko warned faithful to abstain from alcohol and criminal acts that would bring the name of Islam to disrepute during and after the celebration.

“Islam is a religion of true love, good behaviour and peaceful co-existence,” he said.
