Man bags 4 months imprisonment for stealing

An Upper Area Court, sitting in Kuje, on Tuesday, sentenced a 22-year-old Kabiru Ibrahim to four months imprisonment for stealing building materials.

Ibrahim, a resident of Kuchiyako community in Kuje, was arraigned on a three-count charge of joint act, criminal trespass and theft.

In his ruling, the Presiding Judge, Abdulkareem Abdulahi, sentenced Ibrahim, who had pleaded guilty to the charge, to four months imprisonment with an option to pay N15, 000 as fine.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Doris Okoroba, told the court that on Aug. 15, one Phillip Ayuba of Anguwan Gade in Kuje, reported the incident at the Kuje Police Station.

“On the same date at about 8.30 p.m., you Kabiru and one Isaac Yusuf from Niger, now at large, entered the complainant’s building site and stole iron rods and pipes.

“The complainant heard some strange noise from afar, and on getting to the site, you have moved with the building materials.

“You were caught at the army checkpoint on your way to Gwagwalada to sell the materials,’’ she said.

The offence contravened Sections 79, 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.
