Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, Engr. Muminu Badmus says the corporation decided to introduce metering system into the water sector in a bid to curb water wastage across the Lagos metropolis.

Badmus said this on  Thursday at an event marking 100 days of Performance Enrichment Programme (PEP) of the corporation in Surulere, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

“We need to also continue enumeration exercises to update our database. The Corporation introduced metering system to check water usage. So that we can conserve and use it wisely.

“We need to manage the water we produce, which is limited in quantity in order to get to other customers,” he said.

However, Badmus restated that the PEP concept was introduced few months ago to accelerate the transformation of the Corporation towards meeting its aspirations, goals and objectives.

“The model has started yielding its desired results by increasing the revenue generation of the Corporation, as well as overall performance of LWC.”

While presenting certificates and awards to the outstanding Regional Business Managers who had excelled along with their zones, he said the South region emerged as the overall best region for the month of August, 2017.

The LWC boss said the Corporation had proved to the world that the LWC staff could meet set targets if necessary tools were put in place, while He promising to do his best to assist in improving performances.

Badmus added that nearly all boreholes in Lagos State were contaminated, and that the State Regulatory agency was there to regulate the activities of borehole users.

Badmus charged the entire staff to be committed towards moving the corporation forward, as good ambassadors of the LWC.

He said the LWC consultant was presently working on Geographical Information System, GIS and assets management.

The LWC Coordinating Operation Officer, Engr. Deji Johnson said metering concept was a means of increasing water production capacity, access to potable water by customers and increase revenue generation in the Corporation.

He said the LWC had finalized arrangement to stop collection of cash in all zonal offices across the State.

“This is in line with the State Government’s cashless policy, as to make payment much easier by paying through phones, bank, online etc.”

The Corporation’s Head, Projects And Strategy, Mr. Ogunlana Sikiru said the water challenge had been a  major factor for introducing the Performance Enrichment Programming (PEP).

He added that the Corporation introduced metering initiative as a way of conserving water which is limited in supply.

Ogunlana urged the staff to take the metering concept seriously as a way of moving the Corporation to greater height.

The LWC consultant, Managing Director, 2ML, Dr. Muhairwei Williams, in his contribution said Change had come to Lagos and to the water corporation.
