Unidentified gunmen on Sunday kidnapped a businessman in the Akenfa suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital.

The name of the victim was given simply as Chief Okorobia of Unduwari town in the Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.

Reports have it that the gunmen stormed residence of the victim, shooting sporadically before taking him away to an unknown destination.

It was learnt that some police detectives from the Akenfa visited the residence of the victim and were briefed on the incident by relatives of the abducted chief.

A prominent environmental rights activist and kinsman to the victim based in Yenagao, Comrade Alagoa Morris, who confirmed the kidnap in his Facebook post also described the act as barbaric and called on security agencies to ensure that he is released safely by the abductors .

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Asinim Butwat has not reacted to the incident as at the time of filing this report.
