The National Industrial Court (NIC) sitting in Ibadan has fixed Nov. 30 for judgment in a suit filed by one Cpl. Oladiti Wasiu against the Inspector-General of Police and two others.

Wasiu, who filed the case of unlawful termination of his appointment, joined as co-respondents, the Osun State Commissioner of Police and the Police Service Commission.

In his statement of claim, Wasiu informed the court that the Commissioner of Police in Osun allegedly terminated his appointment sometime in 2012 without following due process.

He said that the respondent accused him and others of stealing, following which an Orderly Room Trial was conducted and his appointment terminated.

The claimant’s counsel said that none of the other accused persons mentioned the name of her client during the Orderly Room Trial as being involved in the alleged theft.

He said that the respondents did not give him any letter of termination of appointment other than the oral pronouncement.

The claimant told the court that the respondents also failed to make the report of the trial available to him in spite of several requests.

Wasiu further told the court that the respondents also failed to file any document to defend their claims.

He, therefore, urged the court to declare the termination of his appointment as unlawful and make an order for his reinstatement.

He added that the purported termination of his appointment was done in violation of his fundamental human right.

At the resumed hearing on Monday, Justice Faustina Kola-Olalere of the NIC, adjourned judgment to Nov. 30, after listening to the final written address filed by the claimant’s counsel, Mrs Omoniyi Oguniyi.
