The Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, says youth unemployment in the country requires radical approach.

Dalung said this while inaugurating the Steering Committee of African Youth Entrepreneurship Summit in Abuja on Tuesday.

He explained that government was not unaware of the challenge unemployment and the lack of engagement of youths could pose to the nation.

According to him, the present government will use the two job creating institutions such as digital infrastructure and sports to engage Nigerian youths.

The minister said the present administration was doing everything possible to create an enabling environment for wealth creation.

He added that the Federal Government would continue to engage stakeholders in the industries to harness resources that would tackle what he described as “most serious challenge confronting the country.”

He noted that “we are committed and we must do it and there is no better time to do it than now.”

Dalung disclosed that the nomination of members of the steering committee was based on merit and therefore charged members to live up to expectations.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Luka Jonathan, on behalf of other members, thanked the minister for the opportunity given them to serve.

Jonathan, who is also a Director, Enterprise Development and Promotion in the ministry, pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the summit, scheduled to hold in November in Lagos, will have participants from African countries.
