Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State says the country’s judiciary now has a leadership that can meet the expectations of the citizenry on quick dispensation of justice.
Akeredolu made the remark on Monday shortly after the church service at St David’s Anglican Cathedral, IJomu, Akure, marking the beginning of the 2017/2018 Legal Year in the state.
The governor said he was confident that the current leadership in the country’s judiciary was capable of providing good direction.
In his sermon titled “Wanted in the Judiciary: Men and Women of high Integrity,” Bishop Bola Dahunsi of Ido Ani Diocese cautioned against corruption in the country.
Dahunsi said the society would be better when people of unquestionable character were leading the judiciary.
He called for the appointment of people with integrity into leadership position in the country’s judiciary.
He decried the roles played by some lawyers in handling fraud cases, saying that clients to such lawyers usually sought permission to travel abroad for medical attention.

“People of integrity who are not ‘purchasable’ must be appointed to occupy the posts of judges so that the lost glory of the judiciary can be fully restored,” he said.
The cleric who said the judiciary in the country had lost its glory added that all must strive to ensure the complete restoration of its image.
He said: “God is interested in the way justice is being dispensed in all communities hence the need for them to exhibit the fear of God in all their undertakings”.
Dahunsi appealed to the state government adequately fund the judiciary to ensure the personnel had good accommodation and were well remunerated to prevent them from being tempted with bribes.
He advised the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, to ensure that all funds meant for the arm of government was judiciously utilised
