Red Cross targets households in Adamawa, Yobe

The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) on Thursday said it was reaching out to 60,000 households affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Adamawa and Yobe.

The Country Team Leader, Mr. Baktiar Membetor, disclosed this at opening of the one-week capacity training for some members of the organisation in Yola.

Membetor noted that the intervention programme was aimed at bring succor to communities affected by the crisis in the two states.

“The programme is designed to reach out to about 60,000 affected households in Adamawa and Yobe,” he said.

The team leader said about $5 million was earmarked for the programme.

He said that the intervention packages included capacity building, provision of shelter, agricultural services and women empowerment programmes.

Membetor said the cardinal objective of the training was to impact knowledge on the participants on how to access, monitor and evaluate crisis situations for effective humanitarian intervention and protection.

He said that the participants, at the end of the training, would be deployed to Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.

The team leader said they would evaluate the impact of Boko Haram crisis on some communities and design effective approach to solving humanitarian problems.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the participants who are professionals in humanitarian service delivery were drawn from states across the country.
