Zamfara, UNICEF to take measles campaign to worship centers

The Zamfara Government, in collaboration with UNICEF, on Tuesday said it will take the campaign of its upcoming National Immunisation campaign against measles to places of worship in the state.
The Desk Officer in charge of Donor Organisations in the state Ministry of Information, Malam Lawali Tsalha, spoke at a media workshop sponsored by the UNICEF in Gusau on Tuesday.
The first phase of the immunisation will hold from Nov. 9 to Nov. 14.
Lawali said the move was to let people know that there was no truth in the reports going round that people were being injected with monkey pox disease.
He said the state government was worried about the unfounded information likely to mislead people of the state to reject the immunisation against measles disease.
According to him, this can deny children their rights to good healthcare.
He said the state government and its UNICEF partner would ensure intensive coverage of the state during the exercise.
The desk officer said that 1.2 million children within the age bracket of nine months to five years were expected to be immunised during the first phase of the exercise.
