Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday swear-in Mrs Folashade Adesoye as the 20th Head of Service, HOS, of Lagos State.

At the ceremony which held at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, Ambode said it had become a tradition to continually appoint experienced, dedicated and tested professionals to key positions in government.

“As always, this appointment is in recognition and reward for competence, commitment, perseverance and hard work. By this elevation, you have risen to the pinnacle of your career as a civil servant. It is my belief that you will keep up the good work you have been doing even at the topmost level when you acted as the Head of Service a few months back,” he said.

Ambode said as the HOS, “all eyes are on you to provide leadership and direction to the over 100,000 civil/public servants in the State. You hold a strategic position to bring out the best in everyone from the Body of Permanent Secretaries down the ladder to the junior staff.”

He said government had laid the foundation for the new public Service that is well positioned to rise up to the demands of present-day public service delivery as well as a public service that is proactive, innovative, selfless and technology-driven.

“Although a lot of progress has been made in building on the reforms, it is still a work in progress and there is more to be done in areas of quality service delivery to the public.
The success of your tenure will be assessed not by the efforts you are able put in but the tangible outcome in terms of improvements in the outlook and deliverables of the entire workforce.

Ambode said the role of the new HOS had been clearly defined and that he was sure that she was well aware of what was ahead of her, saying that he had no doubt in her ability to initiate new ideas that would drive efforts as a government and further add value to the Public Service and governance in general.

In her acceptance speech, Adesoye assured that under her watch, the state public service would redouble its efforts in ensuring the speedy, efficient and effective implementation of government’s policy initiatives.

She enjoined public servants not to rest on their oars or engage in premature self-adulation or chest-beating, as public servants must brace up for the challenges ahead because the successes achieved to date and progress made so far only served to highlight the increasing appetite of the populace for more quality service delivery.

“Therefore, given our role, duties and responsibilities in the socio-economic development of the state, I enjoin all public servants in Lagos State to continue to discharge their duties diligently. I urge you all to rededicate yourselves through improved service delivery to the citizens,” she said.

Adesoye further urged public servants to continue to exhibit high sense of of responsibility, diligence, commitment to duty and unalloyed loyalty that had been the hallmark of the state public service.
