The General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola has called on artists across the State to be part of a new open-air art gallery which started at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday.
The LASPARK boss, who was very excited with the turnout of artists and visitors for the event, informed all lovers of creative art that the Muri Okunola Park is now open to all artists every Saturday and Sunday from the 11th November, 2017 to display and sell their works to the public.
The General Manager enjoined residents, visitors, tourists and people who value art to leverage on the rare opportunity provided by LASPARK to visit the park and associate with creative minds who inspire the society through painting and art drawings.
Adebiyi-Abiola encouraged all artists to avail themselves of the unique opportunity and register their interest with the Agency or the coordinator of the programme at the venue.
She said “the “Art in the Park program” is a means through which artists showcase their artistic prowess in a beautiful, green and serene environment and have them sold to Park visitors. All artists across the State are welcome to participate.”
Highlighting the benefits of viewing art in the Park, Adebiyi-Abiola stated that appreciating works of art has a way of positively impacting human health and wellbeing by reducing anxiety, depression and boosting critical thinking skills as well as providing an atmosphere for community socialization among others.
The coordinator of the programme, Mr.Bankole Olabode, praised the State Government for giving artists the privilege to showcase their work at the nerve center of Lagos, noting that the platform provided would afford them an opportunity to sell their artwork to a wide variety of park visitors. He said he was impressed with the turnout on the first and second day of the event and assured visitors of more inspiring work on a regular basis.
A visitor to the park, Mr. Soji Adeloju, who was part of the early callers said that the experience was a great one and noted that Nigerians are really talented if provided with an enabling environment to do their job.
He praised LASPARK for providing an atmosphere where gifted youths can exhibit their God given talent.
