The All Progressives Congress (APC) in South-East, on Tuesday described former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, as an epitome of humility, selflessness and patriotism whose death had created a vacuum difficult to fill.
The party made the remark in a statement signed by Chief Emma Eneukwu and Chief Hycienth Ngwu, National Vice-Chairman, South-East and South-East Zonal Publicity Secretary in Enugu.
The officials said that ”The news of the transition to a higher life of our political idol, Pa Alex Ekwueme, came to us (APC) as a devastating shock.
“He taught us and practically lived a life that the unity of our dear country, Nigeria, is paramount and immutable, and that politics is better played in the mainstream than in peripheral.
“He was a perfect gentleman and a leader par excellence.
“His passage to a higher glory will definitely create a big vacuum in leadership of the South- East that will not be easy to fill.
“We commiserate with our brothers and sisters from the South-East and the good people of Oko community in Anambra in particular.
“Our thoughts shall remain with all lovers of democracy and good governance in Nigeria, who are the direct heirs of Pa Alex Ekwueme’s political legacies.’’
Eneukwu and Ngwu prayed God to grant the departed soul eternal rest.
“God in His mercy should also give Ndigbo and indeed, all Nigerians the grace to bear this monumental and irrevocable loss to our nation.’’
