Lagos to graduate 7,000 from skills acquisition centres Tuesday

The event which holds at the LTV Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja is to commence at 10:00am.
Speaking on preparations for the graduation ceremony on Thursday, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, (Dr) Lola Akande said the graduates were drawn from the 17 Skill Acquisition Centres under the Ministry, located in all five divisions of Lagos State.
Akande noted that the upcoming event would witness the highest number of graduands so far, who have successfully completed their training in various trades which includes hairdressing and cosmetology, catering and hotel management, computer training, textile designing/hat beads stringing, barbing and printing technology.
Others are shoe making and leather works, furniture and woodwork, welding, block laying and adult literacy.
She said further that the graduating trainees who are predominantly women are expected to take advantage of the Skills and knowledge gained in adding value to themselves and the society at large by setting up small and medium scale businesses towards self reliance and ultimately, to become employers of labour.
The ceremony is expected to have in attendance, His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode who is the special Guest of Honour, the Deputy Governor Mrs. Idiat Adebule, wife of the Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, Members of the State Executive Council Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the judiciary and other stakeholders.
