Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday said leadership is termed effective if it brings about productivity and positive change.

The governor spoke at a training session organised for the civil servants, organised by the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, at Citiheight Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The two-day training has the theme: “Impact of Transformation Leadership on Work Ethics, Innovation & Attitudinal Change.”

Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Benson Oke said when employees of government were highly productive, the organisation would achieve its goals of investing in them.

“In our own case, the customer is the general public. That is the good people of Lagos state. When each officer of the Lagos state civil service is productive, the members of the public interfacing with the civil service will obtain such huge benefits and satisfaction that will positively rub off on the reputation and morale of the public service as a whole,” he said.

He added that productivity would also help to motivate the workplace culture and boost morale, thus, producing an even better organisational environment, adding that employees themselves would benefit from increased productivity in the organisation.

“In the light of the above, it is therefore important for each person to consider how to make each moment count in their own interest and in the interest of the organisation they serve. Leadership that matters is the leadership that results in productivity and positive change,” he said.

The governor said that productivity in the workplace would often translate into acceptable service and interaction, saying this is the total client experience which is the key to satisfying key stakeholders.

According to Ambode, the essence of the training was to examine how the right leadership ethos could transform work habits in the Lagos State Public Service, stimulate sustainable innovation and promote productivity.
