A sextugenarian has been has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly using his Toyota Camry Saloon with Reg.No AAA 481 EJ to crush a female graduate to death and injured two others.
The alleged culprit, Olaegbe Adebayo,68, crushed Amaka Joy to death and injured two others, Desmond Dennis, 21 and Quadri Tunde, 22.
The accused was arrested by the Police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos, The accused was charged before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a three-count charge of felony to wit, driving vehicle in a dangerous manner on the public highway with expired driver’s licence.
Police Prosecutor, Abbass Abayomi informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on 4 December, 2017 at Elf Bus Stop, on Lekki- Epe Expressway at about 7.45am.
Abayomi told the court that the accused drove his Toyota Camry dangerously on the public highway with expired driver’s license and lost control of his vehicle and crashed on three victims who were waiting to board a bus at Elf bus Stop, Lekki to their destinations.
He said that while the female graduate, Joy died in the accident, two others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Abayomi said that the offences the accused committed were contrary to and punishable under sections 7 (1), 19 and 20 of the Road Traffic Laws of Lagos State, 2012.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence in the open court and Chief Magistrate, A.O Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 23 January, 2018 for mention.
