Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph and Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi have vowed to make Nigeria proud when they take to the ring to fight for the African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight and light welterweight titles respectively at GOtv Boxing Night 13 on 26 December.

The event, which holds at Landmark Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, will also feature musical performances by Small Doctor, Simi, Falz The Bahd Guy and Reekado Banks.

Speaking in Lagos, Joe Boy, who will fight Egyptian champion, Abdulrahim Ahmed, said he is representing Nigeria and determined to make the country proud.

“This is not Joe Boy fighting. It is Nigeria against Egypt. I want to win the ABU title for our country. Ahmed will have to wait for his turn. The belt is mine,” he said.

Fijabi, who will fight Michael “Tyson” Odhiambo of Kenya, also expressed similar sentiments, saying he has never disappointed before and he will not.

“I have fought boxers from West Africa and I defeated them all. Odhiambo will also be defeated. I want to make Nigerians happy and I am calling on Nigerians to come out and give us support,” he said.

The event will also see Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed defend his West African Boxing Union (WABU) middleweight title against Ghana’s Arye Ayitteh.

Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde will fight for the national light welterweight title against Chijioke “Painless” Ngige. Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu will take on Kehinde “Ijoba” Badmus in a national lightweight challenge bout, while Jimoh “Hogan Jimoh Jr.” will take on Rilwan “Scorpion” Opadokun in the same division. Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna will fight David “Cosmos” Awosika in the super middleweight category.

The best boxer of the evening will win N2.5million, while the runners-up will win N1million and N500,000, respectively.
