The Osun Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed over 1,000 personnel across the state to provide security before, during and after the yuletide season.
The Osun NSCDC spokesperson, Mr Babawale Afolabi, in a statement signed on Thursday, said the personnel were deployed to protect lives and property.
“The Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mr Aboluwoye Akinwande has deployed officers and men to man every flashpoint in the state.
“Officers and men were deployed to mount surveillance on critical national assets and infrastructure to prevent vandalism by unscrupulous elements who may want to take advantage of this period.
“Indigenes, especially farmers are warned not to set bush on fire which could cause havoc to farmlands.
“Likewise, the corps in ever ready to forestall any farmers/herdsmen clashes and therefore appeals to everyone to be security conscious by giving prompt information to the agency,” he said.
He urged members of the public to be security conscious, keep an eye on their environment during this period and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest office of the NSCDC anywhere in the state.
Afolabi said that personnel had been deployed to monitor the distribution of petroleum products to ensure compliance to government directive to check hoarding and any other sharp practices.
He warned criminals, troublemakers and saboteurs to steer clear of the state, saying “it is not a safe haven for criminals’’ and assured residents of adequate security.
