More than 1.8 million Russian nationals living abroad will be able to cast their votes during the 2018 presidential election at more than 360 polling stations in foreign states, an official said.

A member of Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said this on Thursday in Moscow.

“The number of people registered with the consular departments of Russia’s diplomatic missions abroad – we will be taking these figures into consideration, while preparing the needed documents – is 1,878,654.

“In order to organise the election of Russian voters abroad it is planned to establish over 360 ballot stations,” Vasily Likhachyov said at the CEC session.

The official added that the number of Russians eligible for voting abroad may be higher on account of tourists and students being in other countries at the time of the election.

The 2018 Russian presidential election is scheduled for March 18, while the election campaign officially began on Dec. 18.
