Man Stabs Friend On New Year Day For Demanding Drink

The Police at the Maroko Division, Lekki, Lagos of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a technician, Ozoemena Osigwe for allegedly stabbing his friend, Samuel Emmanuel with a knife on his buttock for demanding a bottle of beer from him on New Year day.

The incident, according to the Police occurred at a drinking joint at their ghetto residence at Marwa area of Lekki, Lagos.

A police source said that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maroko Division SP Abdulmajid Ali drafted his men to the scene to arrest the accused following a distress call from the public that they had held a man who stabbed his friend with a knife on the buttock and attempted to escape.

Following the report, the police stormed the scene to arrest the accused and took him to the station and the injured to the Lagos State General Hospital where doctors are battling to save his life.

After investigation, Ozoemena a native of Ugbo area of Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a one count charge of felony to wit, stabbing with a knife.

Police prosecutor, Ingobo Emby informed the court in charge No G/01/2018 that the accused committed the offence on 1 January, 2018 at Marwa area of Lekki, Lagos.

Emby told the court that the complainant, Samuel Emmanuel, an applicant from Calabar, Cross River State met the accused at a drinking joint and demanded for a bottle of drink, but that the accused told him that he had no money on him to buy drink for him.

Emby said that an argument later broke out between the duo which soon degenerated into to a fight during which the complainant picked a bottle, broke it and threatened to stab the accused and that the accused ran to his nearby room to pick a kitchen knife and stabbed the complainant on his buttock and attempted to escape, but that he was held by the public.

He said that the offence committed was punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the alleged charge and Chief Magistrate W.B Balogun admitted him to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Balogun adjourned the case till 13 February, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at Ikoyi Prison, Lagos till he perfected the bail conditions.
