Normal academic activities have resumed in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) public and private schools after the Yuletide holiday.

A news correspondent who visited some of the schools in the territory reports that pupils and students were seen cleaning their school environments for the second term academic session.

Similarly, many female students were seen tidying up their hairs in readiness for the resumption.

Some female students of Junior Secondary School, Kurudu, who were wearing artificial hair and attachment used for the Christmas celebration were seen removing such hairs at the gate of the school.

Some other students were seen fetching water for the cleaning of their classrooms.

Male students were also picking papers and dirt around the school and cleaning lockers.

Mrs Talatu Isah, the Principal of Kurudu Junior Secondary School, said that academic activities for the second term had begun in earnest and as such teachers have commenced their lessons.

Isah noted that many of the female students who refuse to comply with the school hairstyle were asked to immediately remove such.

“As you can see, the academic session has started on a good note. The school environment is cool and calm.

“But many of the students you see at the gate removing their hair are being punished for not complying with the school rules and regulations.

“You don’t come to the school with any artificial hair; we don’t condone that and will not also tolerate indiscipline from any student,’’ she warned.

At the Elshaddai Kiddies Academy, a private school in FCT, pupils were heard reciting the names of the states in the country and also poems.

Mrs Victoria Abiina, the school Proprietress, said she was hopeful that the performance of the pupils in this academic session would be excellent.

She, however, enjoined the pupils and students to comport themselves well to achieve greater performance in their academics.

Also, Mrs Bridget Omafu, the Administrator of Godspower Academy, encouraged the students to face their studies as there was no alternative to success.

Omafu also called on the Federal Government to make life easy for Nigerians to ease the payment of schools fees of their children and wards.

She noted that the economic situation of the country had forced many parents to withdraw their wards from schools, urging the government to address poverty and stabilise the economy.

A student, Miss Ifeoma Akubuike of Junior Secondary School, Nyanya, said she was ready to put her best in this academic session to make her parents proud.

Also, Daniel Okinbaloye of Junior Secondary School, Kurudu, appealed to parents to ensure prompt payment of students’ fees to enable them to concentrate in the school.
