Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has cancelled the three-day ill-fated retreat where his Special Adviser, Commerce and Industry, Deji Tinubu died.
Tinubu died on the first full day of the retreat held at the Jubilee Chalets, Epe area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria while playing five-a-side football with colleagues. He slumped and died before medical experts could revive him.
Government source said the governor decided to cancel the retreat in honour of the deceased. The retreat meant for state executive members, permanent secretaries and others is supposed to close on Saturday. Friday session was not held because of the tragedy.
“The retreat has been cancelled, it cannot go on again because of the sad happening. The governor has asked that it should be discontinued in honour of the deceased,” a government source said.
Earlier, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, in a statement had said the state executive council members were still in shock over Tinubu’s sudden demise.
“We are still in shock. All of us at the State Executive Council are in disbelief. He was a good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job. He was a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit. We shall miss him,” he said.
