Medical Centre partners FUNAAB to establish teaching hospital

The Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State is to partner the Federal University Of Agriculture Abeokuta for the establishment of a teaching hospital.

The Medical Director of the centre, Prof. Adewale Musa Olomu who revealed this during a courtesy visit to the FUNAAB Vice Chancellor said: “We are making efforts to make this hospital a teaching hospital, to upgrade it to a federal university of Medicine and Medical Science.

“The Ogun state government has given us about 170 acres of land, about eight kilometres from here, so, we hope to start construction on the site in a few months”.

“For us to start this we need to partner with a university of research in terms of research and some science techniques.

Prof Musa pleaded for support for the creation of the university.

”We don’t want to be too forward or jump into the creation of the university and that was why we thought it would be better for us to partner with a senior university of science.

”Also, we want to conduct more research on liver and breast cancer and also to get more equipment for these diseases because they kill our people more and faster than we expected,” he said.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Of Agriculture, Prof Phillips Kolawole Salako said: “I know this medical centre has played a lot of roles in the university and the lives of our students.

“Students are very difficult to manage, we don’t have any beef with FMC.”.

The Vice Chancellor also told the medical director that the former President of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo visited the university a few weeks ago and talked about opening an orthodox laboratory on diabetes.

Prof. Kolawole advised that it should not be base on orthodox medicine alone but they should add herbal to it.

The vice chancellor also assured the medical centre of in the radiological aspect, stressing that the country had gone so bad in terms of provision of medical and laboratory equipment.

He promised to partner with the centre to create the university and help it get some equipment it would need to make it a standard university and one of the best medical science university in the world.
