A group of militants having links to the Islamic State terrorist organisation has stoned a man to death, found guilty of adultery, in the eastern Afghan Nangarhar province, local media reported Thursday.
According to the Khaama Press news agency, the militants had released a statement, in which they claimed that the person was killed after being found guilty of adultery.
The media outlet added that it was not the first time the group had executed civilians, citing a February incident when two people were beheaded over their alleged links to the Taliban radical movement and espionage activities for the benefit of the Afghan government.
Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to the simmering militant insurgency, including that of the Taliban and the IS.
