The Lagos State Government has extended potable water supply to Imeke, Iworo, and other adjoining communities of Olorunda Local Community Development Area (LCDA), Badagry, Lagos.
This was disclosed during the Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus’s visit to Oba Abraham Ogabi, Onimeke of Imekeland (Oyikilu I), recently.
The LWC boss explained that the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has extended potable water supply to Imeke, Iworo and other adjoining communities, through the Construction of two million Gallons per Day (MGD) Waterworks.
“This is part of Ambode’s proactive steps and efforts in bringing potable water supply to every home in the communities, and thereby close the water demand gap in the State.
“The residents are now enjoying potable water supply through stand pipes located in different parts of this communities as a test run of the project and also confirmed ongoing mains/pipes extension in the area,” he said.
While assuring the residents of the sustainability of the project, Badmus enjoined them to connect and migrate to the public potable water supply, that is conform to World Health Organisation’s (WHO) standard, because borehole water is contaminated.
He urged the residents to protect the project jealously and report any act of vandalization to the Regional Business Manager or call the Customers Care lines on 07045973012, 07045973013.
Before now, Imeke, Iworo communities have been relying on borehole water as source of their water supply, but with this development, there is access to uninterrupted public potable water supply.
Badmus added that there is improvement in the potable supply of water across the State, as the Corporation is now producing and supplying uninterrupted water to residents in the State, evidenced by the fact that communities that had never been supplied water for many years are now being supplied potable water.
The areas include Ijesha, Makoko, Ikate, Iwaya, UNILAG second gate, Odunlami linkage (Lagos Island), Isheri Olowora, Agege, and many others.
In his statement of appreciation, Oba Abraham lauded Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration towards the construction of the waterworks and bringing evidence of democracy to their door steps.
He also prayed for his continuous success in other areas, adding that network should be extended to other neighbouring communities.
The Imeke/Iworo Waterworks is expected to be commissioned soon.
