Some 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates in Benin, Edo on Saturday, called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to be time conscious.
One of the candidates, Endurance Abang, said that the examination which was scheduled for 7.00 a.m. could not commence until 8.a.m.
Abang said that some of the candidates travelled early to their various centres without food only to start waiting for JAMB officials.
He said not starting the examination, according to the time schedule, could have a negative impact on some candidates sitting for it.
Abang urged JAMB to make mock examination compulsory for all the candidates that enrolled for the examination, to enable them familiarise with computers, servers and other backup equipment used for the examination.
Solomon Osarodion, another candidate, however, lauded JAMB for the smooth conduct of the examination but also expressed concern over the late commencement of the examination.
Osarodion also urged the board to ensure proper monitoring of all the facilities used during the examination to ensure no equipment meant for the exercise is outdated.
One of the board’s centre administrators, Mr Daniel Egeonu, attributed the late commencement of the examination to candidates who he said came late to the centre for the exercise.
He assured that JAMB had a way of monitoring all its accredited centres before the commencement of each examination, adding that the board would not accredited any centre without its requirements.
Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were seen ensuring a hitch-free exercise at some of the centres visited.
