Measles: Centre trains 69 health personnel in Daura

The Centre for Disease Control is training 69 health personnel in Daura Local Government Area, Katsina State on the control of measles.

Malam Ibrahim Sada of the National Stop Immunization Office said at the commencement of the training on Monday in Daura that the programme was organised by the centre in partnership with African Field Epidemiology.

He said that the participants, drawn from the 11 wards of the local area, would undergo training on the symptoms, treatment and control of the child killer disease.

“The 69 participants comprises of 22 routine immunization providers, 22 hospitals in-charge, 16 surveillance focal persons and 11 ward focal persons,’’ he added.

He also spoke of measures needed to be taken to avoid contracting the disease.

“People should avoid sleeping in unventilated rooms and avoid overcrowded environments.

“Some of the clinical symptoms of measles are reddish eyes, coughing, fever and hot body temperature,’’ Sada added.

The resource persons, Aminu Mamman-Kurfi lauded the efforts of Katsina State Government in promotion of health issues, noting that the state had achieved about 95 per cent success in routine immunization coverage.

The local council had in October 2017, vaccinated a total of 56, 893 children against measles.
