Ex-police commissioner's son arraigned in court for fraud

A 41-year old man, Theophilus Ozoigbo who claimed to be the son of a retired Commissioner of Police has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding the management of Morehouse Hotel Company Ltd of the sum of N300,000 and issuing dud cheque to them.

The accused, a resident of Oko Oba area of Lagos was arrested by the Police at the Ikoyi Division, Ikoyi, Lagos following a complaint by the management of Morehouse Hotel Ltd and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit, lodging in a hotel for three days valued at N300,000 and issuing First City Monument Bank dud cheque to the Hotel Management for payment.

Police Counsel, Fransisca Job informed the court in charge No P/14/2018 that the accused committed the offence at Morehouse Hotel Ltd located at 1. Bankole Oki Street, Ikoyi, Lagos on 4 March, 2018.

Job told the Court that the accused Lodged at Morehouse Hotel Ltd for three days and incurred a bill of N300,000 and that the accused issued a First City Monument Bank cheque with No. 4449980016 to the management of the Hotel as payment.

She said that when the Management of the Hotel presented the chegue at the bank for payment, it was rejected on the ground that there was no fund in the account leading to the arrest of the accused for issuing dud cheque.

Job said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 314(1)(a)(2)(3) and 1 sub B of the dishonoured cheque act Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Magistrate, F.F George granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

George adjourned the case till 29 March, 2018 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos till he fulfilled the bail conditions.
