Two men, who allegedly stole cables and transformer oil valued at N500,000, the property of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), are to cool their heels in prison for the next 24 days pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.

The accused — 25-year-old Kingdom Alfred, a driver and 26-year-old Sebastien Noah, a sales representative — were granted N200,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum, according to the ruling of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A .A. Fashola, who gave the short ruling, said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

“The accused should remain in Kirikiri Prisons pending when the bail conditions would be met.”

The accused, who both reside at No. 90, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja, are facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

The Prosecution said that the accused committed the offences on March 7 at No. 90, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun.

Police Sgt. Michael Unah alleged that the accused, with others still at large, conspired to commit the felony by stealing cables and transformer oil valued at N500,000, the property of IKEDC.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.
The magistrate adjourned the case until April 11.
