Annual Lagos book fair to promote authors, works – President

Mr Denja Abdullahi, President, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), said on Monday in Abuja that the Lagos annual book fair was a platform to promote Nigerian authors and their works.

Abdullahi told newsmen that the association had impacted the society through distribution of books to children in the communities and schools.

“In our 36 years of existence, we have impacted the society positively; our association primarily exists to promote authors and writers in Nigeria.

“We’ve been able to do this through a number of activities; we have won many literary prizes; when authors win our prizes and they are announced as winners, that shows how far we have promoted their works.

“We have been able to use our association to encourage reading in Nigeria and we have also brought in reckoning for new writers and we have donated books to schools,” he said.

He added whenever the association organised school outreach programmes, it was a platform where authors were taken to particular areas to read to children.

“Also, we do a lot of school outreach programmes; this is where we take authors to a particular environment to read to children in schools and also to conduct creative writing workshops.

“We also have all sorts of programmes where we focus on specific authors for specific purposes; all these are part of ways that we promote authors.

“We have also been able to promote the works and the authors that produce those works on international and social media and in the month of May each year, we participate in Nigerian international book fair.

“In Lagos and at the fair, we do a number of activities under the banner of the authors group and on that platform, we also do promotion for authors,’’ he said.
