Bida Poly awards certificates to 10,401 graduands

The Federal Polytechnic Bida on Thursday said 10,401 students would be conferred with Higher National Diploma and National Diploma Certificates at its 15th combined convocation ceremony on March 28.

The Rector of the Institution, Dr Abubakar Dzukogi, who disclosed this at the pre-convocation press briefing, said the ceremony would be for the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 academic sessions.

“At the forthcoming 15th combined convocation ceremony, a total of 10,401 graduands will be conferred with National Diploma and Higher National Diploma.

“Also, prizes of excellence will be given to a number of students who performed exceptionally well and distinguished themselves in designated pursuits.”

According to Dzukogi, five Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in different endeavours would be conferred with the Fellowship Award of the polytechnic.

NAN reports that the individuals include Governors Abubakar Bello of Niger, Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, APC National Chairman, John Oyegun and the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.

The rector noted that the polytechnic had moved from 23 ND and 35 HND programmes in five schools to 57 programmes in 31 academic departments in seven schools since he came on board in 2015.

He said the polytechnic came first in project fabrication/construction category in the last National Board for Technical Education organized exhibition at Auchi Poly.

He appealed to the Federal Government to increase funding to the polytechnic to enable it execute capital projects.

“The institution needs nothing less than N1 billion to complete some of our infrastructural developments.

“Last year N79 million was allocated to us for capital projects but we were only able to access about N40 million.

“If we can get one-third of what is given to universities, it will go a long way to helping us achieve our mission and vision,” he added
