`We have completed 500km of roads in three years’ - Umahi

Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi says his administration has completed no fewer than 500km of roads across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Umahi also said that his administration had reconstructed over 100km of federal roads within the state.

The governor made the disclosure on Thursday during Ebonyi Special Day at the ongoing 29th Enugu International Trade Fair.

He said that his administration on assumption of office understood the enormous challenges faced by an average resident of the state and took bold steps to subsume them.

“Our people in the past endured subhuman standard of living and this spurred us to reach out and as well keep our doors open to various ideas in a bid to attract economic expansion and partnership.

“We have remained dogged, focused and determined right from inception to do the extraordinary.

“The exploration of our natural resources in the remotest part of our sites has been made possible,” he said.

Umahi said that his administration had achieved lofty heights in all sectors of the economy.

“I must mention, specifically, that the state built and equipped the Virology Centre for Lassa Fever Control and bought dialysis equipment donated to Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki,” he said.

He said that his administration had installed over 250 number of 500KVA power generators for street lighting in the state capital and energised over 300km of street lights with over 450 transformers.

“Abakaliki has assumed not just as a modern state capital but also one of the cleanest in the country.

“Today, we can count on a number of achievements that make us proud to say to all: come to Ebonyi, see things and be convinced to business with us,” Umahi said.

Earlier, the President of Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industries and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Mr Emeka Udeze, said that the chamber was proud to associate with the state.

Udeze said that Ebonyi had been a consistent participant at the fair which deserved commendation.

“Let me acknowledge with satisfaction the great transformation going on in the state through efforts and pragmatism of the governor.

“This has culminated into more investment inflow into the state especially in the areas of solid minerals, agro-business and commerce.

“Today, we can proudly talk about Ebonyi Rice and we have no doubt that it is providing the nucleus to our export drive and also to feed our local population,” he said.

Udeze said that it was the wish of the chamber that the exciting outing by the state would provide further vent to promote business and economic development in the state.

The fair which has entered its 7th day has the theme ‘Engendering the Competitiveness of Nigerian products in the Global Market’.
