Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo has assured medical personnel in the state of improved working condition for effective and efficient health delivery system.
Obaseki gave the assurance when he received the Executive members of the Association of Resident Doctors, Edo Hospital Management Board (SHMB) in Benin on Monday.
Obaseki said his administration was not unmindful of the challenges confronting the healthcare system in the state and was currently working to resolve them.
“We have been having meetings to see what the exact problems are in the state health care.
“We have got information about the different medical personnel and state of facilities in the states health care system.
“Let us take each personnel in the employment ,to look at what they are entitled to, what they are receiving now and what it ought to be; that exercise is ongoing, ‘’he said.
He, however, appealed to members of the association to be patient and continue to support the revamping of the health sector, adding that the state government appreciated their efforts.
‘“The state government is working to have one general hospital per local government and one super general hospital per senatorial district as against the 34 general hospitals we cannot adequately fund now.
“We have sent the bill on State health insurance to the Edo House of Assembly to make healthcare affordable to the masses.”
Earlier, Dr Karl Umakhihe, President of the association, said the visit was to present to the governor challenges confronting the state health sector.
“We are under appreciated in the state and it is not true that we do not report at our duty post.
‘’The conditions under which we work are not the best and we are not well motivated and renumerated,“he said.
He appealed to the state government to look into the payment of arrears of personnel promoted in 2014 and conduct promotion for 2013 and 2015 sets as well as accreditation for its post graduate residency programme.
