The newly elected Councillor for Ward ‘B’ ( Ogunoloko ) in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, Mrs. Khadijat Jimoh and her counterpart in Ward ‘B’ ( Dopemu ) in Agege Local Government, Rashidat Adekunle, have received their Certificates of Return from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission ( LASIEC ).

Chairman of the Commission, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (Rtd), in her address, enjoined them to “ be magnanimous in victory” and work together with their opponents and other stakeholders, whom they had been given the mandate to represent at their respective Local Governments.

Phillips also urged the councillors to demonstrate commitment to the service of all the people in their Wards and Local Governments, regardless of their political affiliations to ensure peace, progress and development at the grassroots level of the State.

The chairman, whose address was delivered at the occasion by an Electoral Commissioner of the Commission, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, called on stakeholders, particularly leaders of political parties to collaborate with the commission in its continuous voter education and sensitization drive to increase participation in the electoral process by eligible voters in the State, adding that the ‘’incidence of high voters apathy witnessed in the By-elections must not be allowed to re-occur in any future elections to be conducted in the State”.

She commended stakeholders and leaders of political parties who played various roles to support the commission in ensuring peaceful conduct of the by-elections.

The two councillors pledged to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate and leaders of their party who nominated them for the elections.

Also present at the ceremony which was held at the conference room of the Commission were other Electoral Commissioners of the Commission: Chief Toyin Ibrahim – Famakinwa, Mr. Olusegun Ayedun, Prof. Olatunde Babawale , Dr. Noah Lawal –Jinadu and the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Sesan Ogundeko, among others.

The by-elections into the two Wards were necessitated by the death of the former councillors representing both Wards in the affected Local Governments of the State.
