President Recep Erdogan on Monday stated that Turkey will remind their European Union leaders that it does not have any tolerance for double standards in its EU relations.
Speaking to reporters in Istanbul before getting on his plane to Varna, Erdogan said that joining the bloc as
a full members remains Ankara’s “strategic goal.”
Erdogan said there have been obstacles placed on Turkey’s accession path, but he aimed to get the process reactivated.
“Once again, we will remind our counterparts that Turkey has no tolerance for double standards,” Erdogan said.
On the migration deal, he complained Europe has not shown the “sincerity and loyalty,” arguing the promised funds
to help refugees have not fully arrived.
Erdogan insisted he wanted anti-terrorism cooperation from the European Union, “without ifs or buts.”
Earlier, EU President Jean-Claude Juncker had cautioned: “The differences in views between the EU and Turkey are
many.
It will be a frank and open debate where we will not hide our differences but where we will seek to improve our
cooperation.”
