BUK’s 34th convocation: Prof. Gambari to deliver lecture

A former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, will deliver a lecture as part of the 34th convocation ceremony of the Bayero University Kano (BUK) on April 6.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammad Yahuza, disclosed this at a pre-convocation news briefing held at the main campus of the university on Monday.
Yahuza said Amb. Shehu Malami was expected to chair the lecture entitled: “Leadership, Security, Democracy and Development Challenges in Africa: Reflections by a Scholar-Diplomat”.
He said during the convocation ceremony scheduled to hold on April 7, no fewer than 8, 634 graduates would be awarded various degrees and post-graduate diplomas.
He said the breakdown indicated that 5,401 would receive first degrees; 70 would be awarded PhD; 1, 833 would receive Master’s degrees and 656 would receive post-graduate Diploma certificates.
“Seventy two of the first degree graduates are graduating with first class,”he said .
According to the vice-chancellor, the university has secured full accreditation for 23 programmes, including six newly- matured programmes, from the National Universities Commission (NUC) this year.
He said of the accredited programmes,15 were undergraduate while the remaining eight were post-graduate programmes.
“In the last one year, all the programmes presented by the university for accreditation by regulatory and professional bodies have secured full accreditation.
“The most recent is 15 undergraduate and eight post-graduate programmes for which we have secured full accreditation status from the NUC, “he said.
“One of the six newly-matured programmes is BSC Estate Management that was also recently visited by the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria.
“The board has also granted the programme full accreditation status valid for four years,” Yahuza said.
