The Daura Local Government Council of Katsina State has received delivery of 113 varieties of drugs as donation from a Katsina-based NGO, Maternal and Child Health MNCH2.
Malam Ahmed Murtala, the council’s Director of Primary Health disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura.
He said that the consignment comprised of antimalarial, analgesics, eye drops, antibiotics and other relevant and most needed drugs.
He said the drugs would soon be distributed across the five existing health facilities in the area, stressing, “we would ensure equity in the entire process of distribution and delivery to the benefiting hospitals.’’
The director added that the health facilities to benefit from the gesture include Comprehensive Health Center, Daura, Primary Health Center, Mazoji.
Others are: Maternal and Child Health Clinic MCH Baraji, Maternal Child Health Clinic Hindatu and Kanya Badala Health Clinic.
He said the local government facility development committee would monitor the distribution and implementation, stressing the drugs were provided free of charge to pregnant mothers and children under five years.
Murtala commended the donor agency and the Katsina State Government on their tireless efforts at improving the health sector.
“The state government is currently renovating all the existing general hospitals across 34 local government areas in the state,’’ he said.
He called on pregnant mothers and parents to ensure that their children accessed the drugs.
Malam Sani Zimbo, Chairman, Medical and Health Workers in the area, lauded the efforts of the donor organisation.
Zimbo said the drugs would complement government effort in promoting health as well as provision of adequate drugs in the hospitals.
The donor agency maintains quarterly supply of drugs to the council free of charge to improve the health of the people of the area.
