Kaduna Govt donates relief materials to Jema’a LG communities

The Kaduna State Government on Thursday presented relief materials to three communities that witnessed violent attacks that led to loss of lives and property in Jema’a Local Government Area.

The communities, Nindem, Kwakiri and Ungwan Mailafia, which suffered series of attacks by gunmen in 2017, benefited from the gesture.

The gesture is part of the measures taken by the state government to cushion the hardship and restore the confidence of the people.

Alhaji Saleh Mamale, a Commissioner with the Kaduna State Peace Commission, presented the items to representatives of the communities.

He said it was pleasing and gratifying to see what the state government was doing through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

“The gesture is building on the mandate of the state Peace Commission of restoring hope to communities affected by violence and to see that there is a government that cares for them especially at difficult times,’’ he said.

Mamale urged the communities to help consolidate on the peace-building process initiative of the government and make good use of the items.

“They should not see the items as a replacement of what they have lost but as a gesture that they have a government that cares for them,’’ the commissioner said.

The Administrator of the Council, Alhaji Yusuf Usman, said the gesture was a clear demonstration of a government that prioritised the welfare of its citizenry.

“This administration has sworn to uphold the virtues of good governance, inclusive of protection of lives and property and also guarantee quality welfare of our people.

“We sincerely appreciate the laudable stride demonstrated by the able leadership of Malam Nasir El-Rufa’I, who has created an enabling environment and an all- inclusive governance,’’ he said.

Usman told the communities that the government was aware of their concern and would ensure it delivered on its promises.

He urged the people to continue to sustain the peaceful coexistence in their various communities and make judicious use of the items.

Spokespersons of the communities unanimously applauded the government over the gesture and described it as heart-warming.

They gave the assurance that they would ensure lasting peace in the communities.

Items donated included building materials and foodstuffs.
