The Lagos State Government on Thursday warned newly recruited 1,500 Local Government workers to shun all forms of corruption and be dedicated to duty.

Head of Service, HOS, Folasade Adesoye gave this warning at the opening ceremony of a three-day induction training for 1,500 newly employed staff of Local Government at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC, Magodo area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

“I therefore urge you to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by this programme, as well as the guidance, coaching and mentorship of seasoned and highly experienced administrators and professionals that you would be opportune to work with upon your deployment, to acquire critical workplace experience and other essential attributes, such as work ethics, diligence, timeliness, accountability and professionalism, among other values.

“I therefore wish to strongly advise you to be very hardworking and responsible, I advise you to eschew vices and all forms of corruption. While a large number of senior management staff in the Lagos State Public Service may struggle to keep pace with today’s emerging technologies, the story of your generation is very different,” she said.

Saying she believed the new recruit were technology compliant, the HOS urged them to take full advantage of Information and Communication Technology to develop themselves because technology would rule tomorrow’s workplace and that only their knowledge and skills would ensure they continued to be relevant.

Director-General, PSSDC, Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison, said to continually promote excellence at the Local Government, newly employed officers required adequate capacity building initiative that aligned them to the work culture and strategic institutional objectives of the State and the Local Government.

He said it was in view of the foregoing that the Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with PSSDC organised the induction programme for newly employed officers into the Unified Local Government Service for the purpose of ensuring seamless movement of officers in their various career.

According to Ajose-Harrison, at the end of the programme, participants would be able to explain government strategy for achieving the Lagos State Vision; discuss the Lagos State Public Service Rules 2015; carry out Structural Functional Analysis of the Local Government system; describe the procedures for managing Local Government Finance and Accounts and apply work ethics, growth mindset and core values for effective public service delivery.

“I urge you to make the best use of this opportunity by participating actively in all the sessions on this programme.”

Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Babatunde Rotinwa advised the newly recruited LG workers to shun all forms of laziness and embraced team work as that would take them far in the civil service.
